TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS AVA

Tehachapi Mountains becomes an AVA within California, just south of Bakersfield. This high elevation AVA is capable of wine grape growing due to warming winds from the Mojave Desert (east) and San Joaquin Valley (west).



AVA Established: 2020 (Effective December 21, 2020)

Acres Planted: 25 acres (58,000 total)

Producers: 2 wineries

Climate: Region II

Elevation: 3,600 feet to 5,400 feet (3 to 11 degree slopes)

Geographical Influences: Tehachapi Mountains, Piute Mountains, San Joaquin Valley, Mojave Desert

Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Riesling, Syrah, Tempranillo, Viognier, and Zinfandel
